Instructions

Ground Beef with Peas, String Beans, and Basmati Rice.

  • Step#1 -In a large skillet add oil and the sliced onions.
  • Step#2- Sauté on medium heat and keep stirring until golden and edges are brown.
  • Step#3- Now add your meat and with a flat tip wooden spoon break the meat so that it doesn’t make lumps. Keep stirring until cooked.
  • Step#4- Add your garlic, ginger, and salt and stir for about a minute and add you turmeric, coriander, and chili powders.
  • Step#5- Stir for a minute and add your chopped tomatoes.
  • Step#6- As the tomatoes start to cook and release water add your peas and string beans. Add a little water, cover, and cook on low flame until vegetables are tender.

For the Basmati rice

  • Step#1- In a bowl wash the rice under cold running water and let it soak for about an hour.
  • Step#2- In a 5-quart pot add water and salt. Bring to a boil. Drop your rice in the boiling water and let it cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Step#3- Drain the rice but retain about 1/3 cup of rice water.
  • Step#4- Pour rice back in the pot and cook on low heat with the lid on for about 10 minutes.
  • Step#5- Rice will double in length and will be light and fragrant. You can add a little butter on top.
  • Serve the basmati rice with the meat on top garnished with fresh cilantro.
